Earlier in the year I was talking to a few friends...artists, builders, about the current old truck trends. Slammed C10s are rad, but everyone has done them. Dropped effies are common as a cold around any hot rod show. They’re everywhere. When I had my ‘54 F100 at AutoRama last year people did not know what to think of it at first: a stock-ish truck, stock height, with knobby tires. A simple work truck, but in the end everyone loved it.
A couple weeks ago I took the Ram R/T and headed south. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but a 3k trip to see some friends and check out some hot rods. On the way back I made some stops too, Maybe I’ll post some of that at a later time...

Down in Texas there were definitely more than a few trucks reppin’ the low and go crowd, but in the mix were some pretty cool “farm” trucks.
Tony Squindo’s ‘62 C10, a workhorse:
A neat little International...
Wait...what’s that in the background?
blow through twin turbo set up...
Ok. This is still cool.
I dig the COE with the step side bed...
A killer Mercury 100
I’m not one to get too into the cheesy stuff. But the stance was too much to ignore.
this was different too.

Agree. Love me some C10.

Dream truck, right here. Just needs some ride height back.
That brown C10 in the lead shot is just perfect, too. Great shots, thanks for sharing!

Wow! Thanks for the pictures and up dates. I get to live vicariously through theses.
I love the International-soft spot in my heart.

Anyone else getting tired of cartoony rat-rods, especially trucks?
![]() 05/06/2015 at 15:05 |

Annoying that like anything else, old trucks too are now also expensive.
![]() 05/06/2015 at 15:06 |

great photos. I’m a big fan of vintage trucks and certainly prefer that they ride on steel instead of air.

Man, I love the third gen F-series (so ugly they’re cool) but I never see them ; the work trucks are awesome, but so is the clean white custom. The International is a cool sight too. Overall a very nice showing.

I was wondering the same thing. Not judging. Not that there is anything wrong with it.

these types of trucks are everywhere down here, usually sitting around someones backyard.
![]() 05/06/2015 at 15:30 |

There’s not many of them left up here in Canada. They’ve all rusted through basically.

Like a beautiful C-10? Check out the auction on Bring a Trailer which is closing soon. Not mine, just fyi. I'm still working on my 1954 Chevy 5 window.

Old COEs will always be cool. Also, that blue Mercury is patina perfection. Awesome shots, thanks for sharing

I’ve owned a number of old trucks (including a 1931 AA, which I restored), and I really dislike slamming a truck, it just seems so wrong, like it’s against everything it stood for. I would much rather see these old lovlies at stock, or mild lowered/rake height. Just stating my personal opinion, so no need troll me over it.

This really makes me sad that I don’t have the means to get working on my ‘50 right now :(
Lots of awesome trucks!

Glad I bought mine when I did, although it still sits in wait for a proper work space and some attention. I’m not saying it was an investment, but it certainly hasn’t lost any value!
![]() 05/06/2015 at 15:51 |

I agree, that’s why I said it needs some ride height back. I’d love a patinated old truck with a very slight rake, if any. It needs to retain its basic function as a truck. I’ve looked at several F100s actually, and the affordable ones are inevitably hacked up with Mustang II or Camaro front suspension or frame modifications of some kind. I just want a useful stock one.

Cool pics. My dream truck is a late 50’s Chevy Apache stepside resto modded with new crate engine, ford 9 inch rear, Camaro clip with discs all around. Unlike many I prefer the small rear window to the wrap around.

There’s plenty of room for differing styles. That’s what makes the classics so great.

my dad has a chevy like the one in the first picture. same paint scheme but it is a “longhorn” with an extra long box, a big block 400, and 3 gas tanks.

I’ve been lusting after C/K10s recently, but you just reminded me that my desire for an old COE is strong. Great pictures, by the way!

![]() 05/06/2015 at 16:57 |

Yup. Some are cool if done right...but too many are “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should”

Question: Did you see any 61-66 F100/250/350’s? I’ve a 66 F100, and it seems like there’s zero collector’s market for the truck. It strikes me as odd, since I think they’re better looking than the generation before or after.

classic plates.
who wants some? I have them by the box, just ready to go onto classic cars and trucks in Texas. and elsewhere.

![]() 05/06/2015 at 17:20 |

It would really be cool to take some pictures of the trucks in the parking lot and juxtapose them against the Farmer trucks in the show.
![]() 05/06/2015 at 17:29 |

I actually would prefer an older truck to be on airbags.
[To my knowledge] Airbags give a superior ride quality than the antiquated suspension on these older trucks and the ride height is adjustable. You could simply set the air-ride to always be at a stock height and nobody would be any wiser to your suspension setup. The real advantage is when hauling a load in the bed or towing, because then you can level the rear suspension, without having to resort to extremely stiff rear springs that ruin the unladen ride quality.

My dad has a 1950 dodge 1/2ton 5 window thats been sitting around for far too long.. slowly rusting. I’m very tempted to do a quick and dirty project.

i’m rep’n the 90s full-time here in austin.
a true work truck with 240k on the odo, rallye wheels wrapped in wranglers.
this rusted beauty of an international was parked for sale on south congress for the weekend.

I had a 71 Powerwagon with the 318, 4x4 and 4 on the floor, loved that thing in a love hate fashion. Spray painted the thing aluminum via a rattle can. My first Sgt. laughed everytime I drove by, and it seemed it would misfire at least half the time. Off to Fleabay to look.

Richard Rawlings says...good start, but slam em all and either buff the patina or paint em all green.
But seriously, I kind of really want a dropped 50/60’s truck. There’s something very right about them.

Oh man. This makes me want a project truck even more.
![]() 05/06/2015 at 23:36 |

The lead image is my favorite. That is an honest-looking truck which has had some care taken of it, but which isn’t modified or made to look fancy or pretend to be anything it isn’t.

Did it run? Do you remember how much? Idle curiosity only.

Hurry up and get one! The big auto auctions are always saying vintage truck/off-roader prices are really moving up.

Nah... I already have a 20 foot long old car in the garage and my Toyota truck is pushing 20 years. If I did get anything it would probably be a 90’s Ford F-150 since IMHO that was the last era trucks still sort of resembled the classic lines of a truck.

I’m generally not a fan of lowered trucks...although a couple of the rat rods looked pretty cool, and a ‘54 F-100 always looks good as a lowered street ride. Still, the best truck to avoid the “hipster” lowered C-10 crowd would be one Jalopnik reported on not too long ago. This one.
